CONTEXT
Post-pandemic: Back to School
The Covid-19 pandemic is a shared global experience, which impacted individuals, groups, and communities to a varying degrees. After two years post-pandemic, due to school closures and e-learning, students now have to re-adapt back to in-person learning which causes a difficult transition for students.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
How might we help students reconnect with their campuses?
Throughout the six weeks of our designathon, we were given a challenge to make it easier for students to transition back to campus post-pandemic.
Final solution
ScriptIRL, a desktop app that makes in-person lectures more accessible for students.
Within 6 weeks, I designed scriptIRL, a desktop application that automatically transcribes what a presenter is saying in real-time. It is meant for professors to display this software on the projector, so that students in the lectures are able to follow along with what the professor is saying.
The result
ScriptIrl was awarded first!! 🥇

Reflection
Special thanks to…
A heartfelt thank you to the UX Laurier team for organizing and hosting such an inspiring series of workshops, and to all the incredible speakers for leading such engaging and informative sessions.
Reflecting on it, this was my very first UX project—the pivotal experience that sparked my passion for user experience design and inspired me to pivot from computer science to UX. It was here that I first discovered the joy of solving problems through empathy, creativity, and human-centered thinking—a journey that continues to shape my approach to design today.
